Do you know the difference between an independent hotel (like HOTEL10) and one that belongs to a major hotel chain?
An independent hotel is often owned by one or more private individuals. It offers unique experiences, a strong local connection, and greater creative freedom. Conversely, a hotel that is part of a chain (like Hilton or Marriott) benefits from the strength of a global brand and a recognized consistency, but must also adhere to certain standards that partially standardize the experience. Both models have their advantages: one focuses on reliability, the other on personality.
Independence according to Tidan
HOTEL10 belongs to the Tidan hospitality and real estate group. However, each property in the group (Le Mount Stephen, Hotel SENS, Hôtel Mont-Gabriel, Le Nouvel Hôtel, among others) is operated independently. This approach allows each one to offer a distinctive experience, tailored to its clientele, environment, and values.
Among this portfolio, HOTEL10 stands out for its strong personality and deep roots in the Quartier des Spectacles — the vibrant heart of Montreal’s cultural life.

Unique flexibility and authenticity
HOTEL10 celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024. Its independence has allowed it to forge a unique identity: a pet-friendly hotel passionate about art in all its forms — painting, music, design, writing, and the French language — where everyone is welcome. Our artistic partnership with Les Mots Perdus perfectly illustrates this love of culture and words.
We are proud to have earned the GreenStep Silver certification, which recognizes our efforts in environmental sustainability: sustainable energy and waste management, reduced plastic use, responsible suppliers, and ongoing awareness for both our team and guests.
As our philosophy beautifully puts it:
“Some travel and must stay in a hotel; here, you stay in a hotel in order to travel!”
Signed by the artist Rémi Labarre, this phrase perfectly captures what sets independent hotels apart: their ability to offer a true inner journey without ever leaving the walls. At HOTEL10, every detail, every artwork, every encounter tells a story — that of a place that does more than just host guests: it inspires, surprises, and makes you feel.

Freedom to create, innovate, and share
Being independent means being able to act quickly and freely.
When an idea emerges — such as organizing a Halloween costume contest for dogs or a breast cancer awareness day — it can come to life without bureaucratic delay. This flexibility fuels our creativity and allows us to offer our guests genuine, spontaneous experiences.
The inauguration of LOFT OPUS, a jazz-themed suite designed by artist Rémi LaBarre, is a prime example. Located steps away from the Quartier des Spectacles, HOTEL10 pays tribute to local music and artists by integrating art into its very DNA.
Likewise, the tribute to Gino Vannelli, initiated by General Manager Jo-Anne Sauvé-Taylor, reflects our deep attachment to local music and artists — just like the famous Suite 2116 – Chez Dédé, dedicated to Dédé Fortin and his band Les Colocs.

Our initiatives also inspire new collaborations. The hallway leading to the Saint-Laurent Room, now called BLVArt, is a perfect example. More recently, the collective Les 7 Doigts left its artistic mark there, sparking a new synergy that now extends to the JAG multifunctional room.
